Yoga Day 2009
FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE Yoga Day offered stress reduction and sense of community (West Palm Beach, FL) -Over 900 participants enjoyed a day of free outdoor yoga in the beautiful south Florida sun. Although Living Fit Today organized the event, teachers and studios from throughout the community came together to offer yoga to the community for free. The average class was 118, with the largest class at nearly 200. 17% of attendees were brand new to yoga!!! A 4% increase from last year." At the Yoga Marketplace, 26 vendors offered attendees the opportunity to: learn about many different types and styles of yoga, buy clothing or yoga props, get a massage or acupuncture treatment, get a henna tattoo or a free Cholesterol and Diabetes screening. Some chose to get a smoothie, vegan baked goods, while others just propped up a chair and took a break from yoga. Lunch time break included a community drum circle and Kirtan. Families made it an outing, some brought their dogs, and others biked to the event and parked for a class or two. Several people who were walking by stopped and joined in. The oldest participant was a gentleman in his 90's and the youngest were a few toddlers. In these difficult economic times, West Palm Beach Yoga Day brought our community together for a positive connection", said Jerry Jefferson, West Palm Beach Yoga Day Organizer. "Participants learned techniques to reduce stress, relax tight muscles, and ease pain. They learned to breathe more deeply and deliver more oxygen to their cells; they began the journey to being stronger, fitter, and more flexible." Participants were provided a reusable bag that included: $250 gift certificate off a PranaSleep Mattress, $5 off coupon from Winn-Dixie, Yoga Journal Magazine, Ocean Potion sunscreen, Luna energy bars, SoyJoy bars, Sweet Tomatoes coupons and Jo-Sha scented wipes. Winn-Dixie also provided the bags. The event was sponsored by PranaSleep and Winn-Dixie and our media sponsor was Natural Awakenings.
